Where is the Craig Woolard Band This Week?

First of all, we apologize if anyone was planning to go to HOTOs for Mother’s Day. Mother Nature did not cooperate unfortunately, and since it was Mother’s Day, who could argue with that?
On Saturday, Mr. Harold decided to move it to Fat Harolds, and then Sunday morning, they decided the weather was just too bad. I was already on my way down there when we got the call, but it was probably a good idea. So, we will reschedule it, and as soon as I know, YOU will know.

Hope you all had wonderful and blessed Mom’s Day!

Get ready, people, this is the hardest week we ever do – we have so many events that (thank goodness) ask us back each year and we try and work them ALL in!
Here we go…

Thursday, 5/15

Funds raised through the purchase of food and beverages, so come hungry and thirsty!

Local bands from beach bum communities and frat groups began to fill the boardwalks and beach pavilions along Virginia Beach, and the music exploded as a popular sound.

CWB NEWS!

We have some very exciting news!
A member of The CWB has just landed a great opportunity on a National level!
As most of you know, our drummer, Slammin’ Sam worked with National Recording act Kenny Wayne Shepherd for 6 years before coming to beach music.
Now, another national touring opportunity has opened up for Sam!

Don’t worry -
SAM IS NOT LEAVING THE CWB!

Sam loves The CWB and his fans here – he will be performing with both of us!
He will, however, be gone 1 or 2 gigs a few times during the year to perform on tour.
So, if you don’t see Sam with us this week, DON’T worry
Sam has to go to Nashville to rehearse for a gig with the Artist on Sunday, April 20th.
This will be their first performance, so they need some rehearsal time.
As soon as the Artist gives him permission to make the announcement, we will fill you in with the details!
Sam will definitely be with us all next week and at SOS, and all of our other gigs this month and in the future!
There are only a very few gigs he will miss with us.

Tony, our original drummer, and other great drummers in our industry, have agreed to help Sam out when he has an engagement. Sam has made sure we have a great sub so that the CWB and our fans do not miss a beat!
When Sam came to me and told me about this great opportunity a few months ago,
he assured us that he did not want to leave this area or his band. Wilmington is home to him, his mom lives here, and he loves us all.
Before accepting this great opportunity, he asked if there was anyway we could work this out, so I said -
“H_ _ _ YES! “
You know, when Tony had to leave us due to his day job (we were killing him with our busy schedule – he had to be at work everyday at 6:00AM!), he told me he would not leave us until we were in good hands. Tony was true to his word!
Way to go Sam!
We love you, man!

Craig

Your Band – The CWB

More CWB News –
Craig Michael (“aka CJ”) performed his first gig this past Saturday
with his band,
Airlie Ires

The band debuted at Jerry Allen’s Beach Bar in
Wrightsville Beach, NC. during the Azalea Festival,
and received rave reviews!
Most of their songs were originals with only a few covers.

The band’s next performance will be
Thursday, May 1st
at
The Port City Pub in Wrightsville Beach!

Don’t worry ladies - You will still see Craig Jr. singing with
The CWB – he will have a new song with us very soon!

Stay tuned for more news from The CWB –
exciting things are always happening!

A Note from Craig…

Thank you to all who attended the
CBMA Membership Drive at
The Thoroughbred Lounge in

What a great place!
We will definitely be back there soon!
The place was packed and we all had a great time.
Many new people signed up to join the CBMA.
Thank you as well to the Chad Sain and the many guest Artists that appeared with us – there was a lot of talent in that room – just a taste of what you will experience Cammy weekend.

CWB RETURNS FROM
2ND ANNUAL MAKING WAVES CRUISE

(We think!)

What a great time we had
"Making Waves" on our
2nd Annual Making Waves Cruise
to
Cozumel, Mexico.

Out to Sea with THE CWB

Were YOU there?

I send out a very special “Thank You”
to our sponsors,

94.9 THE SURF
(with DJ Ray Scott)

FAT HAROLD
of FAT HAROLDS BEACH CLUB

And of course, our great hostess
JUDY of JUDY’S HOUSE OF OLDIES.

We missed Judy. She had to have back surgery Monday before we left. But Liz and Brenda stood in and didn’t miss a beat. The cell phone charges back to the mainland might be a little expensive, but Judy wanted to make sure everyone was having a good time! The truth is, she was dying to be with us and wanted to know all the scoop!
She’ll be with us in 2009 though!

ALL ABOUT TRAVEL did a fantastic job once again, coordinating all our events and insuring we were taken care of properly. And believe me, we WERE! Carnival was very gracious to us, and the service could not have been better. That’s why we travel with Carnival! We have our own PRIVATE club, and I mean CLUB – not a banquet room - fully equipped with bar and wait staff, stage, lights, a large dance floor, and generous seating. It is state of the art and smoke free – and it’s ALL OURS!!!! Many people in the bar/lounge area outside were dying to come in and join the fun. But we promise you a PRIVATE PARTY with THE CWB. We also had 2 complimentary Cocktail parties, one hosted by
94.9 The Surf and Fat Harold

Last year the boat was great, but this year it was even better. The ship, the crew, the food – yes, the FOOD….and club were fantastic, and I do believe everyone had the best time yet!
We had been on this boat once before, but it was completely remodeled. WOW! What a beautiful ship! And you should have seen the water slide they added on the top deck! It was 2 levels high, and had one section with 2 slides side by side so you could race. I will let Keith (Salvadore) tell you all about that – I think he lived on it with his daughter Maggie. Actually, Maggie was just the excuse for him to ride. I saw him there even WITHOUT his little girl.

The CWB kids had a great time as always. Carly, Alex and Logan thought they owned the ship as usual (and Mexico, too, for that matter). Salem and Victoria enjoyed the beautiful beach in Cozumel, and Maggie swam with the Dolphins.

The whole island is surrounded by one continuous beach with a white sandy shoreline. It is truly a paradise.
We are so blessed to be able to take our families on the cruise.
It becomes our vacation for us since our schedule is so crazy.
And it’s great a chance for us to spend time together, as well as with our fans.

The crowd of Beach Music "Cruisers' just keeps getting bigger and bigger. This group was much bigger than last year, and sold out again.

I never ate so much GOOD food in all my life!
I think I ate 5 times a day!!
And the chocolate-melty cake….
But breakfast was my all time favorite.
Breakfast at home is just not the same!

And a special thanks to Mike and Becky - "2005 CBMA Fans of the Year" for making this their debut cruise with us – I’ve Got a Feeling We’ll Be Seeing Them again next cruise….

There were a lot of birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and even a couple that got engaged (says something for the peaceful swaying of the boat when out to sea…!)

There were "Cruisers" in our group from Texas, North and South Carolina, Virginia, and even one couple from Ohio that we met last year.

We met some people on the boat from Pennsylvania that saw my Fat Harold's t-shirt, and came up to me to tell me how much they loved OD and Fat Harold's!
It is indeed a small world.

There was a group of 30 airline stewardesses that just LOVED our music at the pool party. From what they tell us, they will be with US next year!

You would have been really proud, people. When we played for the entire ship on the last day, the whole
boat was rocking –from the music, not the waves! Most of these people did not know us at all, and certainly did not know our music. But, man, they LOVED it!
They were very impressed with our shaggers too!
Our cruise director brought a lot of the staff to see us. I looked up there one time and they were all singing along with us.
Then I looked again, and was a little disappointed to not see her anymore. I thought, oh well, I guess she had seen enough. But she was right back - she had gone to call for the ship’s photographer to come and take pictures of the crowd, and the fun time we were all having!
It was truly awesome!

After that, people on the ship – staff included – actually recognized us and said – “hey – that was the guys singing at the pool today! Love the music!”

Our DJ's, Chad Sain and Ray Scott, were as always, a class act, and I was honored for The CWB to be a part of such a great event with these incredible DJs. Ray has been with us from the very first cruise, and I know why – he knows how to make you have a party! In fact, we won’t have a cruise without Ray!

Although there were A LOT of good times on the boat, to me, the deck party was the highlight of the trip – it was rockin' (literally)!
You just HAD to BE THERE!

I promised to tell you about Cozumel, specifically at Carlos and Charlie's where they film "Girls Gone Wild"!
Well, they need to change it to “Shaggers Gone Wild!”
Yes, Chad, Ray, our Lumberton and MB friends, and a full posse of others took my son Craig Jr! He asked if his mom and dad would mind NOT going like last time, since he is over 21 now...but we said NO!!!!!
We came too!
Chad had his daughter Brittany and her friend there, so his behavior was a little better than normal. It was Britt’s 18th birthday, so we had to teach her the proper way to have a good time! Harvey and Mr. Harold made sure everyone was “taken care of”, though I must admit, Bill was the hit of the day. Ask Rose about his apron!! Ray said he had to keep Rose and Charlene 25 FT. away from each other at Carlos & Charlie’s – well – HE DID!!!! You’ll have to ask him how! (Hint - refer to the apron!).
Sunny Beach from the SUNNY BEACH SHOW, and her husband Freddy of 94.9 The Surf, have some pictures – but, sorry you won’t be seeing them – I will have to pay her a LOT of money to delete them!
(Inside story – you will just have to come next year and find out for yourself!!!)

Sam and Andy had a REALLY good time watching everyone – and I had fun watching them watch!

All I can say in public is that, yes, Craig Jr. (CJ) and Alan did make it back on board (even though it was at the very LAST minute and somebody tried to board the wrong Carnival ship! I was a little nervous by then to say the least), and NO, no one was arrested.
Debbie happened to looking out over the balcony at the sunset though and got a little scare. A small boat was racing after the ship because somebody DID miss the boat. It was no one from our camp though, thank goodness!

Debbie and I were suffering from acute bronchitis and laryngitis the entire time, but there’s something to be said for that clean sea air and warm sunshine. Or maybe it was those drinks with the little umbrellas! I don’t know, I just had a great time!!

The rest you will just have to find out for yourself by going there with us next year!!

Mr. William, proprietor of THE LIGHTHOUSE in Rocky Mount, NC, generously donated a FREE CRUISE for 2. He held a Christmas/Cruise Give-Away Party at The Lighthouse in December, where Dawn, one of our fans from Plymouth, NC, was the lucky winner! She brought her sister with her. It was her sister’s birthday, so I would say that was one heck of a birthday present!! Wonder what Dawn will be getting for HER next birthday…..!!!! Let’s see – I see a cruise with The CWB in her future! We had the pleasure of sitting at the table with the 2 lovely young ladies.

We were a little worried that Alan would be sad and missing his new friend. For those of you that do not know, Alan recently went to Russia – yes, I said Russia. Siberia, to be exact. He had hoped she could join us on the cruise, but it didn’t work out this time, so he was a little down. And although he was very loyal to his new relationship the whole time, he got to let loose a little that day in Cozumel. Craig Jr. was on a mission to cheer him up. Mission accomplished! He woke up the next day, wondering how he got back to his cabin, and how he hurt his thumb!!! Believe it or not, MY SON got him back on the right ship! Don’t bothering asking Alan the details – he doesn’t know!!!)

Note from a Fan:
Review of band new CD,
COME GET TO THIS

Craig Woolard has been making music since the age of 14. To say he is a legend in this industry is an understatement. And now, with his new band,
The Craig Woolard Band is one of the most sought after bands in the business.
Also referred to as THE CWB, The Craig Woolard Band is a high energy show band, representing the best in entertainment. From the moment they hit the stage, until the very last song, they make you want to dance and have a good time. If you have ever had the pleasure of attending a performance by this band, then you know – you’ve gotta love these guys! From a fan's perspective, no band in the business works harder to please their audience. I stand in awe of this man and his band – we continue to witness the on going evolution of an amazingly talented group of musicians. The yellow butterflies still surround them. In just 3 short years, The CWB has reached plateaus that even amaze them! Craig has won more accolades than any entertainer in the Carolinas. And when we think they couldn’t get any better, they reward us with a new CD titled, COME GET TO THIS, that will knock your socks off (but not your shag shoes I hope!). Their first CD, “MAKING WAVES”, took the industry by storm. “COME GET TO THIS”, I am sure, will be no exception. It is burning up my CD player! The song selections are masterful. You want to dance from the very first song. The soul that pours out of THE CWB is phenomenal. Their showmanship is unsurpassed. They always leave the audience asking for more. Keep watching people –
The Craig Woolard Band is the REAL THING!
If you want to treat yourself, look no further - You NEED this new CD!

News Flash….
Hometown gives Homeboy
Craig Woolard the Key to the City!

Little Washington, Craig’s hometown, honored him last Saturday night at the Annual Washington Festival in front of 8000 plus proud spectators with a key to the city.
His mother, Betty, his wife Debbie of 24 years, and his 2 children, Craig Michael and Carly,
watched Craig receive the award with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts.
Craig has performed at the Washington Festival for over 15 years.
This is truly a moment he will never forget.
As Craig said – “This is by far the BEST award I have ever received, and certainly, the one that means the most. I love you Little Washington”.

Craig was born and raised in Washington, and has dreams of one day coming home to retire on the river that he has loved so much since a boy.

“Who Says You Can’t Come Home!”

Congratulations to Craig!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Remember when we put on the website –
“Do you want to know a secret?”
Well, here it is!!!

Well, actually, there was this one secret…. and then the person that the secret was about blew it since HE couldn’t keep the secret. So when this new information came up, we decided to wait and tell both secrets at the same time!
Are you totally confused yet?

Here is secret #1.

THE CWB now officially has a horn section!
Keith Stone, formerly of ECPB and the Fabulous Kays, among others, has joined The CWB!!
Keith was supposed to start with us at the end of January, after our Making Waves Cruise. But the poor boy was so excited, he kept showing up everywhere we were and sitting in with us – with no pay!!!.
I felt so bad, I told him to come on board a little early, and what a great decision it was.

So, Keith – YOU ruined the secret and my great plan to announce your joining our group!!!
Having Keith as an added horn has made our sound even bigger and fatter!
Come check it out!

Please join me in officially welcoming
Keith Stone
To
The Craig Woolard Band!
We love you, Man!!

Now for secret #2!!

The cat is out of the bag on this one a little bit, too, however.
Tony Mallard, our drummer from another planet,
(hence the nickname “alien”),
is stepping down for a long needed rest.
We wore his butt out with our busy schedule.
Tony has a real job and has to be there every week day at 6:00am. Can you imagine… getting home from a gig at 4am, sometimes not even going to bed; and then, working an 8 hour day, just to do it all over again the next day?
He is a better man than I am, that’s all I can say.
So, it is with much sadness we announce that our incredible drummer, Tony, is leaving The CWB family.
His last night will be this Thursday at Loafers.
PLEASE come out and help us say good-bye to our dear friend and drummer, Tony Mallard.

And don’t be surprised if you see some grown men crying on stage. It has truly been an honor performing with you, Tony, and I am in awe of your insane drumming skills.
. We will miss you, man!

But, not to worry – Tony stayed with us until he could leave us in good hands….
(Remember who gave Tony the name “alien”) ….

Sam Bryant
will be joining The CWB on
Friday, Feb 8.

Yes, you read it right – SAM!!!

And no, we DID NOT “steal” Sam from Coastline.

Sam called and told me that he was leaving Coastline. He knew that Tony, our drummer at the time, was leaving us – we had killed him with our busy schedule. Sam expressed an interest in the job with the CWB. I immediately told him I could not and would not consider this without discussing it with Jim first. Jim called me to discuss it , and gave Sam his blessing to go with The CWB.

No behind-the-scenes plans, no conniving, no underhandedness.

Of course, Jim and Coastline will miss Sam.
How could they not?
None of us have talked about this until the time was right out of respect for each other and our businesses.

If you have any questions,
please address them to Sam or me.
We all will be happy to set the record straight.
We thank Coastline for their support and wish them much success (as if they need it!!! Coastline Rocks!!).

Also, Sam and Tony are opening up a drum school together, so if you want to learn how to beat the drums like the BEST,
check it out!!!

We love you and thank you all for your support – for without YOU, there is no us!

The Craig Woolard Band
Craig, Terry, Mark, Greg, JK, Keith, Sam, and Alan
(and Tony, for he will always be a part of
The CWB family)

Thank you , Mr. Harold and staff…
“You haven’t been to the beach until you’ve been to Fat Harolds

A Special Note of Thanks from Craig

This CD has been a LONG time in the making. I want to personally thank each and every one of you who played a part in the creation of this CD and the creation of The Craig Woolard Band.
I wish I could list them all here – but there is not enough room.
But you know who you are. My heart is full of love for the support you all have given me, and I will never forget you.

I send a special “thank you” to The CWB.
I have pushed you guys and made you work a lot of very long hours - and not once did you complain (at least not to me!!) You are an incredible group of men. I am honored to call you my band.
And Lady Soul - what a gift you are! I thank God for leading us all to each other.

Lady Soul sums it up pretty well – “The sand of the beach inspired the music and the silk of the cocoon produced the band.”
It also took a combination of grit and grace to get this point!

We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making it!
We could not have done this without you!

Thanks to you all who have purchased our new CD "Making Waves".
We really appreciate the great comments we have received from the DJ's and YOU!!!

The Story of The Yellow Butterflies

In 2004, Craig and his former band parted ways – and Craig went on to a new adventure.
There is a story about the Butterfly that is very special to us that fits perfectly into the “birth”
of the new band – The Craig Woolard Band. We’d like to share it with you:

One day in particular when Craig was performing for a huge concert at Ocean Drive. It was not a good day for him. Rumors were flying. Problems were very present in his professional life. But he was surrounded by these yellow butterflies. Everywhere we went that day, we saw these yellow butterflies. A very special friend in the crowd saw them too. She called us over and said: “There are yellow butterflies all around you – you are going to be all right!” It was the strangest thing. We had never noticed yellow butterflies before. It was a rather upsetting day, but when she said that, a calming peace came over us. Later that year she explained their meaning.

The Butterfly is a powerful symbol, both in religion and folklore.
Some see the Yellow Butterflies as angels watching over you.
.
Butterflies have always represented the "spiritual journey" and symbolize the "soul" during "self-transformation".

When we shed our "cocoons and limitations", we are able to spread our wings and discover we are "not afraid to fly".

"What the caterpillar sees as the end of the world... The butterfly sees as only a beginning.

And thus….
THE CRAIG WOOLARD BAND
was born!

“TOTALLY BEACH FOR THE KIDS”

I would like to talk to you about this very special project which I have been fortunate to be involved with this past year – one that is close to my heart on two levels….

First – the mission of the VICTORY JUNCTION GANG CAMP is to enrich the lives of children with chronic illnesses by creating a camping experience that is exciting, fun, and physically and medically sound.

Founded by Kyle and Patty Petty, in loving honor of their 19-year old son, Adam Petty. VJC is the latest addition to Paul Newman’s “Hole in the Wall Gang Camp” family. Adam made a commitment to this project – a few weeks later he was met with a fatal accident. But his work lives on through his parents, Petty Enterprises; the drivers, the teams and the fans of NASCAR,; as well as people like you and me. WE all can help – WE all can make a difference in the life of a sick child.

There are hundreds of thousands of children who would benefit from
The Victory Junction Gang Camp. These children have serious medical conditions that limit their physical activity, and many these children cannot attend traditional camp programs because it could be life threatening to them if something were to happen. But thanks to the Petty family, it is now possible for these kids to enjoy what you and I and so many healthy people take for granted.

Envision a 10–year-old battling leukemia ….A twelve-year-old enduring spinal bifida….YOUR child living with a crippling and painful disease. “VICTORY JUNCTION' is a place where these “heroes” can, for just a little while, stop being heroic, and just be kids. “

The goal of this project, which I have been involved in for the past year, is to raise money to support this incredible camp. Since the camp operates solely on generous contributions from corporations and people like you. the way we are going to accomplish this is through something that is near and dear to OUR hearts – Beach Music. With the assistance of many talented people within our industry, “TOTALLY BEACH FOR THE KIDS”, which features some of the most classic Beach Music songs of all time. Featured are:

General Norman Johnson and Chairman of the Board
Coastline Band
Holiday Band
Gary Brown
Roy Roberts
The Tams
Hardway Connection
William Bell
Mark Roberts
Casey York
Craig Woolard

When your purchase this CD, you share in this positive work the camp is doing, and allow it to continue for years to come. Because of your participation with this project, no child or family will ever have to pay to attend this camp. With your help, kids will catch a fish, ride a horse, swim in a special pool, climb a tower, sing, dance, and laugh out loud.

So, please, look into your heart (AND YOUR WALLET) and BE A PART OF THIS IMPORTANT EFFORT. PLEASE, SUPPORT THE VICTORY JUNCTION GANG CAMP and the fulfillment of Adam’s dream, by buying one…or two… or even 20 of these great CD’s.

As Beach Music Lovers, we are presenting this CD to you first. As Beach Music supporters, you can enjoy this CD, knowing that you are a part of an amazing effort by helping us get to “Victory Lane!”.
